Franchising's 2024 Economic Outlook; Part 4
Franchising's 2024 Economic Outlook; Part 4
This dynamic region is not just participating in the franchise economy; it's leading it, setting the pace for the rest of the nation.
According to FRANdata's 2024 Franchising Economic Outlook, the Southeast is home to approximately 30% of all U.S. franchised businesses. This translates to about 248,000 franchise establishments, a number that speaks volumes about the region's entrepreneurial spirit and business-friendly environment.
But it's not just the number of establishments that's impressive. The Southeast's franchise sector employs a whopping 2.6 million people and generates $268.2 billion in franchise revenue. These figures underscore the critical role franchising plays in the region's economy, providing jobs and driving economic growth.
What's even more exciting is the growth forecast for 2024. The Southeast is expected to outpace the national average, with a projected growth rate of 3.5% in franchise establishments. This is significantly higher than the overall U.S. projection of 1.9%, indicating that the Southeast will continue to be the hotbed of franchise activity in the coming year.

Florida is forecast to see a 4% increase in franchise establishments in 2024, while Georgia is projected to grow by an impressive 4.6%. These states, along with others like North Carolina and Tennessee, are driving the region's franchise success.
The types of franchises thriving in the Southeast are diverse, reflecting the region's varied economy and consumer base. Quick Service Restaurants (QSRs) continue to be popular, benefiting from the region's population growth and strong tourism industry. Personal services franchises, including health and wellness concepts, are also seeing strong growth, aligning with national trends.
The combination of favorable business conditions, population growth, and projected franchise expansion makes it an attractive region for starting or expanding a franchise operation.
However, success in the Southeast's franchise market will require more than just riding the wave of regional growth. Franchisees will need to understand local market dynamics, adapt to regional consumer preferences, and navigate any state-specific regulations or challenges.
Its projected growth not only benefits the region but contributes significantly to the overall health of the U.S. franchise industry. For those in the franchise world, keeping an eye on the Southeast isn't just advisable – it's essential.
