Two Lives Were Forever Changed Yesterday

They are an amazing young couple in Utah.

I met Tyler and Leyah about three months ago. They had clicked on a Google ad about franchising. I wonder what routine, seemingly inconsequential thing they were doing as they clicked that ad. Were they having lunch together at a restaurant, scrolling something on their phone while waiting for soup? Was one of them clicking the ad while the other drove down the highway? Were they sitting on the couch, bored, watching a Friends rerun and thinking about a new life? Did one of them have a particularly unpleasant moment at work and decide to see if something better could exist on the other side of their device screen?

I’m confident that, in that moment, they had no idea of the power that was unleashed with that screen tap. It set into motion a series of events that all led to a very big life change for them yesterday as they were awarded a franchise that is an incredible fit for them. And their life change is about to set into motion innumerable events and conversations that will change the lives of many individuals and families for the better over the coming years.

Our work together over the past three months is bringing about a tremendous change in the work they do, the income they earn, the impact they make on the world around them, even the city they live in, allowing them to relocate to the city of their choice.

Yes, our work is financially rewarding for the franchise professionals who make up our team. But it’s so much bigger than that.

A 2022 CNBC article reported a Gallup poll from the same year exposing some alarming statistics about work satisfaction.

Gallup, in its recently released State of the Global Workplace: 2022 report, found that, along with dissatisfaction, workers are experiencing staggering rates of both disengagement and unhappiness. Sixty percent of people reported being emotionally detached at work and 19% as being miserable. Only 33% reported feeling engaged ­­— and that is even lower than 2020.

In the U.S. specifically, 50% of workers reported feeling stressed at their jobs on a daily basis, 41% as being worried, 22% as sad, and 18% angry.

The work we do, and the way we feel about the work we do affects every aspect of our lives.

It affects the ways in which we interact with our loved ones, thus having an impact on our most important relationships. It affects our social lives, thus having an impact on friendships. It affects our sleep patterns. It affects the way we eat. It affects our physical activity, thus having an impact on our overall physical health. It affects our emotions, thus having an impact on our overall wellness and state of being in the world.

Nothing in life escapes the impact of the thing we spend 1/3 of our lives doing every single day and how we feel about that activity and the environments and circumstances we experience as we do it. And if we’re doing that thing stressed, worried, sad, and angry, then we have created quite the miserable existence for ourselves and everyone in our lives.

What I’ve shared above is what drives us at our company. We are keenly aware of the brevity of life, the finite time we have to fully experience all of the wonderful moments possible in life. We are also keenly aware of how every one of those moments can be stolen by not being aligned with the thing you were truly meant to do with the time and talents that have been given to you. So many people reach the moment of leaving this life filled with regret over mis-spent decades, feeling as if they never truly lived while they were living, wondering how, or even if, they will be remembered, by anyone, for anything.
